In 2008, John McCain vetted Willard “Mittens” Romney as a potential Vice Presidential nominee.

Romney gave McCain’s people 23 years’ worth of his tax returns to review.

Subsequently, McCain selected batshit crazy Sarah Palin as his running mate.

This time around, Mittens isn’t showing his tax returns to anyone.

Connect the dots, la-la-la-laaaaa…

Comments from Paul Krugman’s column in the New York Times:

If he’s paid his taxes, not taken advantage of questionable loopholes, has legal bank accounts, and made his money honestly he shouldn’t hesitate to release his tax returns. I don’t care about his wealth; I do care how he got it and how he pays his taxes. I pay mine. He can certainly afford to pay his and do it honestly with no gimmicks.

Mitt Romney seems to be a fairly traditional aristocrat. As such, his belief in the entitlements of wealth is not only firm but inbred. He has absolutely no idea what it means to be anything other than rich and powerful, and no concept of why it should matter to anyone else how he got his money and what he does with it. And there is no problem money can’t fix.

Unlike Romney, neither McCain nor Kerry made their business endeavors a central part of their campaigns. Obama has released tax returns going back to 2000. I think it’s safe to assume there are some unflattering things to be discovered from Romney’s tax returns.
